SA5481001 Flap Sensor for GT-541 / GT-782

Obstacle Sensor Bar "Flap Sensor" # SA5481001 (Pump Senso)

Genuine Brother® OEM part.  This is the small electronic device that senses the flap at the end of the Obstacle Sensor Bar.  The mounting legs that hold it in place are often broken when users try to bypass the 'cover open' kill switch by jamming a piece of cardboard in place.  Once this part's mount is compromised, you can not fix it with gum or duct tape!  It must be replaced with a new part.  The two photos above show the area where the sensor is engages the Obstacle Sensor Bar flap.

When replacing the Sensor, use caution in handling and re-inserting.  Loosen the Flap Bar slightly so that the Sensor can be inserted (see screwdriver pic above).  After re-attaching, make sure the end of the Obstacle Sensor Bar is aligned to the middle of the Flap Sensor.  Otherwise, you will continue to get an error message.

Brother GT-541 Error Code 6004 "Fail: CLRNS SNSR" may indicate that this sensor is deffective, broken or misaligned.  

The picture below shows the location of the Obstacle Sensor Switch (Flap Sensor Switch).  The retaining clip/leg on the left side is broken off and it no longer will properly 'sense' the flap between the two sensor ears.  This particular damage was caused when the user attempted a "technician's trick" and fake the printer out to operate with the front cover open.  They pushed the cardboard into the wrong area and broke off the very delicate mounting clip.  Once that get's broken, you're stuck!  Even trying to tape it back together won't work.  

This same part is also used to sense the pump gear position.  Error Code 5212: MNT RSP ERROR: PS.  PS is a "Pump Sensor Error".  It is rare when a user has access to that area, so they rarely break.  If you get this message, we have a Technical Sheet to guire you in checking the wire leads to Sensor and Pump.
